Mrs G Duncan: London’s First Female Bus Conductor | Animated Short Film

Discover the inspiring story of Mrs G Duncan, who made history in November 1915 as London’s first female bus conductor. When thousands of men left their jobs to fight on the Western Front during the First World War, women stepped in to keep the city moving. Mrs Duncan took charge of the No. 3 bus route from Peckham to Putney, paving the way for over 4,600 women who went on to work on the London General Omnibus Service during WWI.

This powerful 3-minute animated film was created by children aged 8 to 12 during a three-day animation course at Nine Elms Studio, facilitated by Chocolate Films Workshops. Through their imaginative storytelling, they bring to life the courage, resilience, and trailblazing spirit of a woman who broke barriers in the capital’s transport history.

👉 Watch to see how Mrs Duncan’s journey reflects the untold stories of women who transformed London during wartime.
