SELLING OUT: LONDON’S SHOPS
A CHOCOLATE FILMS PROJECT
When it comes to shopping, we all know that London is one of the greatest places in the world. London’s shops offer so many choices that even the most dedicated shopper could never tire of exploring them. We've got amazing markets, huge shopping centres and historical department stores. Look down smaller streets and you’ll find boutiques of all kinds - luxury designer shops and interesting niche shops side by side with independent stores. If you look hard enough, you can find almost anything you can think of in London. But who are the Londoners who work in sales - the shop assistants, the small business owners and the market traders. In ‘Selling Out’ we set out to meet them and discovered some fantastic London characters.
‘SELLING OUT’ IN CINEMAS
‘1000 Londoners: Selling Out’ has been screened at special events at cinemas across London such as the Hackney Picturehouse, the Deptford Cinema and the Lexi. The screening programme includes rare archive footage from London Screen Archives, that looks looking at London’s shops through the years. After each screening we often hold Q and As with the Londoners featured in the films. If you’re interested in finding out more about the programme or screening the programme at your venue just get in touch.

HOW THE SELLING OUT FILMS WERE MADE 🍫📽
The crew of the London production company Chocolate Films researched, shot and delivered the films in the Selling Out season. Chocolate is a social enterprise video production company with a talented full time team of filmmakers. Each film was created by a self-shooting documentary filmmaker from the Chocolate team, working alone. Check out the Chocolate Films site to find out more.
