Life has thrown some unforeseen obstacles at Ellinor, but her passion for science and her loving partner, John, have helped her to persevere. She continues to flourish not only as a scientist, but as an active member of the community.

Questions & Answers
- What's your first memory of London? Hammersmith Bridge, looking imposing and very dark green on a gloomy day. I first visited when I was a kid and had read the Narnia books to prepare. It did seem magical, and scary.
- What do you miss when you're away from London? The diversity ...of cityscapes, of people, of food, of events.
- What's your favourite neighbourhood? Crystal Palace is fab! But I do really love the ancient riverside areas.
- What's your favourite building? I never fail to feel uplifted when I walk through the central hall of the Natural History Museum, ‘a cathedral to the living world’. However, the Crystal Palace Dinosaurs are actually classified as historic buildings, so they take the cake.
- What's your ideal day out in London? A ramble that includes quirky historical surprises, museums and a relaxed visit to a quiet pub. There’s a group of us that do this regularly, though it’s much harder now on wheels.
- What's your ideal night out in London? A meal with friends, then some kind of bonkers performance at a small quirky venue like Wilton’s Music Hall.
- What's your most hated building? The many, many newish buildings with windows that are too small. And buildings that have weeping sores from pipes poorly plumbed.
- What's the best view in London? Looking up and down river from one of the many great bridges. The Millennium Bridge is particularly good since you can really see over the edge, and can just hang out.
- What's your favourite open space? The parks, large and small!
- What's your favourite bar, pub or restaurant? Babette’s in Nunhead, or almost any of the wonderful Persian restaurants in London.
- What's the most interesting shop? The markets like Borough, Spittlefields, and many smaller markets.
- What's been your most memorable night out in London? I particularly enjoy going to talks or debates by people who are at the top of their game - the writers, artists, politicians, specialists in loads of topics who speak with passion and authority. Everyone passes through London eventually and if you keep your eyes peeled you can see them in person.
- How would you like to spend your ideal day off in London? On the river or canals, traveling on a nice old boat.
- Where would you take someone visiting from out of town? The museums are mind-expanding, so if we can find times outside the tourist crush, then the BM, Tate Mod, or the many smaller museums. It’s a busman’s holiday.
- What's the worst journey you've had to make in London? The many train and tube journeys that have gone wrong due to cancellations, and the late nights waiting for busses in the rain.
- What's your personal London landmark? It's gotta be the Crystal Palace Dinosaurs.
- Who's your favourite fictional Londoner? Spiderwoman, a gal who got superhero powers from an invertebrate!
- What's your favourite London film, book or documentary? London, The Biography. By Peter Ackroyd.
- If you could travel to any time period in London, past or future, where would you go? The early Victorian era when science, engineering and social change was all making big, positive changes and filling people with optimism.
- For you, who is the ultimate Londoner? All of us!
