Corrine in is and is an elderly 'befriender'.

Corinne met Agatha through Age UK’s elderly befriending service, after the loss of her Grandma and her insight into the loneliness of the elderly generation in London. She started out by helping with the garden but their friendship soon blossomed and they’ve become great friends.

Questions & Answers

  • What's your first memory of London? When I was about 6 or 7, getting on a Route master bus with my parents (at the back of the bus). When the bus stopped at traffic, I hopped off thinking we were at the bus stop.
  • What do you miss when you're away from London? The diversity, the bustle, great food, the endless things to do, buses (I have a strange love of London buses. You see such interesting people on there and because you're above ground, you can look out of the window)
  • What's your favourite neighbourhood? Clapham - my current home
  • What's your favourite building? St Pancras Hotel - it's a gothic revival-style building. Absolutely beautiful.
  • What's your ideal day out in London? Wake up, run around Clapham Common or other form of physical activity, meet friends for lunch, interesting museum or exhibition in the afternoon (Brand museum is great).
  • What's your ideal night out in London? If the weather is bad; early dinner and drinks followed by a trip to the theatre (The National usually has great performances). If the weather is good; dinner, drinks & good company at a rooftop bar with great views across London.
  • What's your most hated building? Centre Point tower - I can't see the beauty in it unfortunately
  • What's the best view in London? Sky Garden. It's free (although you have to book in advance) and you get a 360 degree view of London whilst surrounded by lovely plants and shrubs.
  • What's your favourite open space? Clapham Common. Huge, very green, lots going on and 1 min walk from my flat. Kew Gardens is also really beautiful. London has some great open spaces, that's what I love about it. There's always a common or a park close by.
  • What's the most interesting shop? I hate shopping! Bookshops are also interesting; can spend hours in any one of them.
  • What's your favourite place to hang out? South Bank. It has one of my favourite theatres (The National), lots going on, plenty of food choices, by the river, some great views and a rooftop bar.
  • What's been your most memorable night out in London? My 21st birthday party at School Disco which was a club in Hammersmith many moons ago. I had a limo and a bunch of friends travel up from Berkshire.
  • How would you like to spend your ideal day off in London? Long long lie in (I'm usually up around 5.45/6am). Lazy morning, breakfast in bed, perhaps a swim at Shepperton Lake if the weather is good. If the weather is bad, a day in watching a DVD box set. Rarely done but always a dream day for me. No emails to get back to when I return to work.
  • Where would you take someone visiting from out of town? Sky Garden, South Bank, Borough Market, Regents Park, Clapham Common...too many choices to choose from.
  • What's the worst journey you've had to make in London? Trying to get to Kent on Easter Monday this year to see my god-son. Spent around 5 hours at various London train stations but everything that could go wrong, went wrong. Had to give up, turnaround and go back home.
  • What's your personal London landmark? Mr Bean - so funny
  • Who's your favourite fictional Londoner? BT Tower - reminds me of my Mum getting lost (with me when I was a child) and using that as a landmark to get our bearings
  • What's your favourite London film, book or documentary? One night in 2012 - a recent documentary about how the Olympics opening ceremony came together. Brought back great memories and so inspiring.
  • If you could travel to any time period in London, past or future, where would you go? Swinging sixties - it must have been amazing
  • For you, who is the ultimate Londoner? Everyone who loves this city, embraces it all, gets everything they can out of it whilst putting something back in1.
